PP vs Nylon Cable Ties: Which to Choose for Wet, Chemical & Food Applications
Nylon cable ties are the default choice for most applications — affordable, strong, and widely available. But if you're dealing with moisture, chemicals, or food-contact requirements, nylon may not be the best fit. This article looks at the differences from a practical, factory-level perspective.
1. Where Nylon Falls Short
Nylon (PA6/PA66) is a good general-purpose material, but it has a few known limitations:
- Water absorption — Nylon absorbs moisture from the air. In wet or humid conditions, it can swell and loosen over time.
- Limited chemical resistance — In environments with acids, alkalis, or strong cleaning agents, standard nylon may degrade.
- Stiff edges — Nylon is relatively rigid. On delicate surfaces, it can leave marks or cause damage.
2. When PP Cable Ties Make More Sense
PP (polypropylene) cable ties are not a replacement for nylon in every situation — but they handle certain conditions better:

3. When Nylon Is Still the Better Choice
If your application is indoor, dry, and requires high tensile strength (18–55 kg), nylon is the more cost-effective option. There's no need to pay extra for PP when nylon does the job perfectly well.
